A Welcome Worthy of Westerwood

Untitled design (44)_edited_edited.png
The intersection of Hill and Smith isn’t just any corner.

This is the junction of four of Greensboro's Greenways: Latham Park Greenway, Lake Daniel Greenway, A&Y Greenway, and the Downtown Greenway. This area is also a marker and key part of the Smith St. Entrance into Downtown.

What should feel like a gateway into one of Greensboro’s most connected and vibrant neighborhoods currently feels a little forgotten. Every day, this corridor connects people moving through our neighborhood and into the city beyond.

It should feel like Westerwood:  welcoming, connected, and unmistakably our neighborhood.

We think it’s time for something better.

What We Hope To Create

The-Best-North-Carolina-Native-Plants-for-Bordering-Walkways.webp

Landscaping At Hill Street

A thoughtfully designed landscape plan that replaces overgrown, non-native plantings with low-maintenance, native, perennials for a beautiful and environmentally conscious entrance which feel like a natural extension of the surrounding greenways.

Neighborhood Signage

A simple, well-designed marker paired with surrounding landscaping and subtle solar-powered lighting will help create a clear sense of arrival, both day and night, and reflects the character and pride of the neighborhood.

Cross Walk Mural

A community-driven crosswalk mural that adds color, creativity, and visibility to the entrance. This element will help calm traffic, improve pedestrian awareness, and serve as a vibrant expression of Westerwood’s spirit and walkability.

Our Plan

2_edited.png

This is a grassroots project, led by the Westerwood Neighborhood Association.

As a board, the WNA has committed $10,000 to get this project started and we are actively seeking grants or city assistance to help cover an additional $20,000.

Our total goal is $45,000:

  • $15,000 for landscaping and solar powered lighting

  • $20,000 for the neighborhood sign

  • $10,000 for the Crosswalk Mural

We are asking our neighbors to help us raise the remaining $15,000.
